How to share your Android smartphone VPN connection with a PC and other devices

'VPN.png' failed to upload.

For the scoop of this writing, we will focus on PC but the same procedure works well when you are trying to connect other devices to your Android VPN connection

Reasons, why you would want to share your phone’s VPN connection, might be

  • Ethernet or wifi unavailable

  • Your VPN service provides only one device to connect simultaneously

  • Your VPN enables you to get free internet from your ISP (internet service provider)

  • Bypass certain restrictions

  • Or any other

We have tested different ways you can share an Android VPN connection to a computer and we have found two tools that can enable you to do just that.

One tool/App is categorized as a wifi repeater or extender and another is a proxy finder. A repeater enables the android device to create a virtual hotspot for your device which you can view on your computer and connect to it as wifi. The proxy finder looks up for the proxy that you can use on your pc after creating a phone’s hotspot. Enough talking time to get hands dirty.

For the repeater we recommend NetShare

Of Course, you are free to use any other app that is in the category of a repeater or extender or you can stick to our recommendation. I use Netshare almost every day and I know how good it is. In this paragraph, I will demonstrate how to use NetShare to share a VPN connection to your pc

How to use Netshare.

  • Download the Netshare app from here. The app has been updated and it does seem to work well for pc that’s why I recommend downloading it from that link provided and install that apk

  • Open it and click start sharing. The app will create a virtual wifi hotspot,  you don’t need to open the phone’s hotspot. You will see the hotspot name and password which is automatically generated.

  • On the PC open wifi to see available networks and look out for the wifi hotspot and connect to it by entering the password.

  • On your PC again, Search for proxy settings and manually enter the proxy address and port as 192.168.49.1 and 8282 respectively.

And if you followed the steps you might be connected now.

Quick fixes

If you can’t see the hotspot on your PC, reboot. It fails again after reboot, check your wireless adapter. Note that whenever you disconnect Netshare and connect it again a new hotspot and new password would be generated. The app might also ask for a premium for unlimited bandwidth but if you’re not interested in paying you can continue using it in free mode or hack it.

For the proxy finder(Easy proxy used here)

This is the easiest and you might choose it over NetShare. You can use it when a NetShare has failed. And remember NetShare helps in cases where the android device is unable to open its hotspot.

How to use a proxy finder.

  • Download the Easy proxy here

  • Open the app, and toggle the HTTP/HTTPS. Click the three dots in the top right corner and click all IP addresses. Pick an address that is unique and ignore the one that starts with 17.xxxx and 19.xx.

  • Open your hotspot on your android device phone the normal way at this point if you haven’t already

  • Connect your computer or any other device. And search for proxy settings. Enter the unique IP address as I wrote and the port which is usually 1080 by default.

  • Now you're connected.

Quick fixes

The app might be closed when left running in the background so we recommend adding it to the white list to avoid interruptions. Keep in mind that the IP address might change whenever you reconnect your VPN or open the Easy proxy app. If the proxy refuses to connect use 192.168.43.1 and 1080 as the port.

Using HTTP Injector

HTTP Injector is an advanced tunneling app, it has got several advanced features that are important in creating a secure online presence - it enables you to create your own VPN. Among others is the feature that enables the sharing of your VPN connection as a hotspot.
You can share your VPN connection as a repeater of direct.

How to HTTP Injector to share your VPN connection

  • Download the app from the play store and open it
  • Click Tools on the menu as shown in the image below
  • Click tethering tools
  • Then Hot share
  • Click Start HotSpot, some versions of Android don't allow the app to directly create it so you need to create it manually by going to your device setting.
  • After creating the hotspot, connect a device you want PC or another smartphone device.
  • Click Start HotShare.
  • Go to the device you want to connect and change the proxy setting, on windows 10, search for the proxy setting.
  • Use the poxy IP as 192.168.43.1 and port 44355 as displaced in the image below though the numbers might vary.

Quick fixes

The app will drain your battery, some phones will freeze the app or warn you, add it to the white list to avoid disconnections. The proxy IP and port might vary, for that matter choose to follow what is displayed on your phone.
